Nina Mahjoub

Nina leads the Holmes Los Angeles office, where she oversees a diverse team improving seismic safety throughout Southern California.

After practicing as a structural engineer on both coasts, Nina took a break to go build mud-hut libraries in Thailand and reflect on why engineering excited her in the first place. She returned to the US focused on sustainable solutions built to last. Whether extending the life of an existing building or leveraging new building technologies like mass timber—Nina devises structural systems that meet code requirements and uphold the architectural vision. She takes the impact that the building community has on shaping a place’s character while implementing public safety seriously—remembering the past, while paving possibilities for the future.

Born and raised in France by Iranian parents, Nina earned her engineering degrees at UCLA followed by MIT with an emphasis in high-performance structures. She took a sabbatical to pursue a Master’s in World Heritage & Cultural Projects for Development through UNESCO. She treasures the international vibe at Holmes.
